Wisdom in Times of Persecution

The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church launches each year on the first Sunday of November. Though we should be praying continually for the persecuted around the world, we want to join together as a community of believers to intercede on their behalf this month. As you remember and reflect on the persecuted church, we hope to offer you some thoughts on how to pray for our brothers and sisters.

This week, we are focusing on wisdom and fruitfulness. Many believers in persecuted areas have a great desire to be fruitful and an effective witnesses for Christ. They risk much to worship the Lord, and to further the cause of Christ in their contexts. They desire to make Christ known all around them, even to their persecutors. Accomplishing this goal requires a wisdom only God can give. There is always a risk in deciding who to trust and who to have a spiritual conversation with. Knowing when to speak and what to say is often a challenge. Deciding where and when to meet for worship can be threatening. Every conversation, relationship, and decision, becomes a matter of potential danger. Wisdom from God is greatly needed.

Dare to Ask God to help you pray for persecuted Christians worldwide to have an increase of wisdom so they may be fruitful and effective for the Kingdom.

We hope you will join the movement as we lift up this prayer together:

“Lord, we thank You that You have told us if we lack wisdom, we should simply ask You for wisdom. We do that now on behalf of the persecuted church. Lord, in their desire to serve You, we pray You will guide them in their decisions and relationships so their lives may be impactful for your Kingdom. Help them to be “as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves,” so Your glory may shine through their testimony and their lives. Amen.”
