A popular verse is Psalm 46:10, it says, “Be still and know that I am God.” We can deepen our knowledge on this verse by understanding what it means to “be still.” “Be still” means to “cease striving,” to “let go,” and to “relax.”

Most people assume the key to success involves effort. Because we mostly accept the idea that “you get out what you put in,” we tend to think that if we want to know God more, we would need to do something. Perhaps we might try to study the Scriptures more, work harder, pray more, or do something to discover new information about God. God, however, tells us to do the opposite of what seems so natural to us. God says simply, “Be still,” “Cease striving,” “Let go,” “Relax.” Psalm 127:2 likewise speaks of a similar idea, “It is vain for you to rise up early, to retire late, to eat the bread of painful labors; For the Lord gives to His beloved, even in his sleep.”
Do these verses mean we are wrong to study Scripture, to pray, and to earnestly seek the Lord? Certainly not! In fact, the book of James says God wants us to study the Scriptures. Throughout the Bible, we are repeatedly told of the importance of prayer and how we should be praying always and in every situation. Seeking and striving to know the Lord should be part of the life for every follower of Christ, just not necessarily the most important or beginning part.
our sURRENDERANCE, NOT EFFORTS
The most important aspect of the Christian life, and surely the foundation of our relationship with Christ is not found in our efforts, but in our surrenderance. Knowing God more and better, understanding His Will, and deepening our relationship with God all begins with SURRENDER.
Surrender is where it always begins. Do you need an answer? Wisdom comes from surrender. Are you struggling with temptation? Victory begins with surrender. Do you struggle with guilt? Surrender is the beginning point of experiencing forgiveness. Are you hurting? Healing starts with surrender. Do you need deliverance? Freedom certainly comes with surrender.
Be still; cease striving; let go; relax; SURRENDER to Christ as Lord. God will show up, and you will know it.
