After John the Baptist was taken into custody, Jesus entered Galilee preaching the Gospel. As he walked along the seashore, he saw two fisherman, Simon and Andrew casting a net into the sea and said to them,
“Come, Follow me.”
-Mark 1:17
They immediately left their nets and followed Him. On the next Sabbath, they were with Jesus in Capernaum where people were “amazed at His teaching because He taught them as one who had authority (Mark 1:22).”
The simplest definition of a disciple of Jesus is to be a “follower.” Discipleship is the relational process which enables a person to grow from childhood to maturity in Christ. When Simon and Andrew dropped their nets and followed Jesus, the direction of their lives was transformed forever as they became examples for every believer to follow.
