Timothy is my firstborn son. He came to his first ILI History Makers here in Kenya when he was just 18 years old. At the end of the training, he stood before everyone at the graduation and said,
If you sit through a training like this and go back to doing things the same way you’ve been doing them, you better go to a doctor and find out what’s wrong.
I promise you, before everyone here,
that this has changed me
and you will see the difference.
After that, Timothy set a goal to train 1,000 leaders by the end of the year. As December arrived, he came to me with his head down, feeling discouraged and said, “Dad, I only trained 900.”
I reminded him of a time I challenged a minister of the Gospel saying, “Do you care about the future of your leadership?” Though the minister said he cared, he admitted he hadn't been doing much.
I told Timothy, “You have done so much. 900 is not a small number. Be encouraged.”
Soon after, still determined to meet his goal, Timothy met a man who was leading a conference for youth pastors that whole week. He told him,
If you let me come every
afternoon this week,
I will equip your leaders.
By the end of the year, Timothy went above and beyond and trained nearly 1,200 people! His faith was so inspired that he came to me and said, “I want to take the whole country, county by county, and build a strong leadership movement for History Makers by 2018.” When I asked him if he thought he could really do it, he said,
I trained 1,000 leaders,
and my God is the same.
To those who feel discouraged in spreading the Gospel, I tell you: Never give up. Keep doing what the Lord speaks to you. You who have been impacted, be encouraged to impact others.
And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
