THE INFILLING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The invitation was simple and straightforward,

“Would you like to personally experience the fullness of the Holy Spirit in your life?”

About 50 people were in the room, and we had just heard teachings on Ephesians 5:18-22 and Luke 11:13. The theme of the evening was the work of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer.

In Ephesians 5:18, Paul instructs the believers in Ephesus to “be filled with the Spirit.”

In Luke 11:13, Jesus said, “If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”

ENCOUNTERING THE HOLY SPIRIT

The invitation continued, “The worship team will now lead us, and if you would like to be filled with the Holy Spirit in your life, then gather with three or four others and pray for one another.”

What happened next reminded me of the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2. We did not observe physical manifestations like tongues of fire, but we did see evidence of individuals personally encountering the Third Person of the Trinity, as they surrendered their lives to God and asked the Holy Spirit to cleanse their hearts and give them power to live the Christian life.

God has promised to fill
His people with the Holy Spirit if they will humble themselves and ask.
